What actually happened
A major coding upgrade landed on time: Grok 4.20 launched in beta Feb 17, 2026 with a multi-agent architecture aimed at one-shotting complex tasks (the standalone Grok Build agent came later, in May). Re-graded partial (2026-07-05 audit): the promise named Grok Code specifically, and that product line never received the upgrade — grok-code-fast-1 was deprecated May 15, 2026 without a successor in the window. What landed near the deadline was Grok 4.20 beta (Feb 17), a general-purpose flagship with strong one-shot coding, and the dedicated coding agent (Grok Build) only reached early beta May 14 — ~2.5 months late.
