Tesla battery replacement cost: what it actually runs.
Reported quotes, what your warranty still covers, and an honest answer
to the question underneath the search — whether you need a new pack at all. Most people
asking this do not.

The figures above are ranges owners have reported from service-centre quotes, collected across public
owner forums and reporting. Treat them as a planning envelope, not a quote — your own number
depends on model year, pack revision, labour rates and whether a module-level repair is possible.
Before you price a pack, measure it
The overwhelming majority of people searching this are not facing a failed
pack — they have watched their rated range drop and are bracing for a bill. Those are different
problems. A pack that has quietly lost 8% over four years is behaving exactly as designed and needs
nothing. Find out which situation you are in first:
Whether it is a repair or a replacement. A single failed module can sometimes be
swapped rather than the entire pack. Always ask before accepting a full-pack quote.
New versus remanufactured. Tesla-remanufactured and independent-specialist packs
typically land well below a new pack, with a shorter warranty attached.
Pack size. A Long Range pack carries more cells than a Standard Range one, and the
cost scales with it.
Labour. Pack replacement is a multi-hour job and rates vary widely by region.
Questions
How much does a Tesla battery cost to replace?
Reported out-of-warranty quotes land roughly between $12,000 and $23,000 depending on model, with remanufactured packs and independent specialists coming in materially lower. Tesla does not publish list pricing, so any figure you see — including ours — is a reported range, not a quote. The number that matters more is whether you are still under warranty.
Is my battery still under warranty?
Tesla covers the battery and drive unit for 8 years with a mileage cap that depends on the model (100,000 miles on Model 3 RWD, 120,000 on Model 3 Long Range/Performance and Model Y, 150,000 on Model S and X), and guarantees at least 70% capacity retention over that period. Whichever limit you reach first ends the coverage. The checker above works this out for you.
Does degradation mean I need a new battery?
Almost never. Degradation is gradual and mostly cosmetic until it affects your daily use — a pack at 90% after 60,000 miles is completely ordinary. Packs are usually replaced because of a fault, not because they slowly lost range. Measure yours with the battery health test before assuming anything.
What actually drives the price?
Pack size and chemistry first, then labour and whether the pack is new, remanufactured, or repaired at module level. A single failed module can sometimes be replaced instead of the whole pack, which is dramatically cheaper — worth asking about before accepting a full-pack quote.
Do Tesla batteries need replacing at a set mileage?
No. There is no service interval for the pack. Large-fleet data consistently shows most packs retaining roughly 85–90% of capacity past 100,000 miles, which is why replacement is the exception rather than a scheduled event.
