The 'genuinely useful humanoid robots' post of July 22, 2024 promised low-production Optimus units doing real work inside Tesla in 2025 and high production for external customers in 2026. By the January 2026 earnings call Musk conceded no Optimus was doing useful work at Tesla, blaming hand/forearm limitations, and pinned hopes on the V3 redesign instead.
