What actually happened
A few years became a decade-plus. Through 2018 Tesla shipped only supervised highway Autopilot; the first FSD city-streets beta reached a handful of testers in late 2020; and the first driverless customer rides didn't happen until Tesla's monitored Austin robotaxi launch in 2025, going monitor-free only in January 2026.
