What you give us
- Your email address, when you subscribe to The Daily Verdict, sign in (we email you a one-time sign-in link) or ask to hear when your battery health changes.
- Comments. If you sign in and comment, your comment is public on that page, shown with your display name: the part of your email address before the @.
- What you type into the tools, such as the description you give the wrap designer.
- Battery test. If you run it, you sign in on Tesla's own page and approve read access. We read battery, charging and basic vehicle details (model, year, trim, odometer and range) to work out your result. We don't request your car's location. We keep the result with a one-way code made from your VIN, not the VIN itself, so a repeat test can update it. We never see your Tesla password, and your Tesla access is used for the few minutes the test takes, then discarded.
- Privacy requests you send with the form below.
What's collected automatically
- Usage: the pages you visit, how you found us (the referring site or search), your device and browser type, your approximate location (city or region, from your IP address) and when you visit. Google Analytics collects this with cookies.
- Network data: our hosting provider processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. For the daily limits on the wrap designer, the battery test and the privacy form we keep only a one-way code made from your IP address, with a daily count.
- Referral clicks: we count clicks on the Tesla and Starlink referral links per link and per day, with no personal information.
- Cookies and browser storage: a sign-in cookie (30 days), a battery-result cookie (1 year), short-lived security cookies while you sign in or run the battery test, your list-view preference (kept in your browser), and Google Analytics cookies.
How we use it
- To send the emails you asked for, sign you in, show your comments and run the tools you use.
- To understand which pages people use and improve the site.
- To prevent spam and abuse.
We don't sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Who helps run the site
- An email delivery provider sends the newsletter, sign-in links and other emails, and holds the newsletter list.
- A hosting and database provider serves the site and stores the account, comment, battery-result and limit data above.
- Google Analytics measures visits. Google can collect information about your activity on this site and on other sites over time. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- An AI image service receives the description you type into the wrap designer, to draw the design.
- Tesla, only if you run the battery test: you sign in on Tesla's page, and Tesla's privacy policy covers your Tesla account.
- Referral links take you to Tesla's or Starlink's own site, where their privacy policies apply. We get a referral credit if you buy.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter email: until you unsubscribe. The email provider keeps a record that you unsubscribed so you aren't added again.
- Sign-in account and comments: until you ask us to delete them. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and sign-in sessions after 30 days.
- Battery result: the latest result for each car, until you press Forget my data on the battery page or ask us to delete it.
- Google Analytics: event data for 2 months, user-level data for up to 14 months.
- Privacy requests: as long as we need to handle them.
Your choices
- Stop emails: use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or the form below.
- See, correct or delete your information: send a request with the form below. We'll reply to the email address you give us.
- Battery result: press Forget my data on the battery page.
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Do Not Track: the site doesn't respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
Children
The site isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
