Tesla Roadster enters production

“We expected this to be available in 2020.”
What actually happened

Musk announced the new Roadster in Nov 2017 with deliveries targeted for 2020. As of mid-2026 the Roadster has still not entered production and even its production-design unveil keeps slipping, so the 2020 target was missed. Tesla Roadster unveil delayed again (Electrek, Apr 2026) ↗

At the November 2017 Tesla Semi and Roadster unveiling, Musk floated a $200,000 starting price for the next-generation Roadster and indicated deliveries would begin by 2020. The announcement put the new sports car about three years from customers' driveways. The 2020 deadline passed without production beginning.
