At the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 22, 2026, in conversation with BlackRock's Larry Fink, Musk said Tesla expected to begin selling Optimus humanoid robots to the public by the end of 2027 — once the robots reached very high reliability, safety and a broad range of functionality. Tesla began installing an Optimus production line at Fremont in mid-2026, with the V3 design still unrevealed as of July 2026. Whether members of the public can actually buy an Optimus by the end of 2027 is the falsifiable test.
