PendingMusk promised (Feb 9, 2026) that 'in the next few months' X would run rigorous security tests of X Chat AND open-source all the code (window closing mid-2026). Neither happened: the code was never open-sourced — no whitepaper, no public source, no independent audit as of the deadline — and the only Trail of Bits review of X Chat's protocol is dated October 2025, four months BEFORE this promise, so it cannot count as fulfillment of a pledge to test in the future. The goal has not been renounced (X still says it will open-source), so the overdue clock is legitimately ticking. eSecurity Planet — X Chat still closed-source, no published audit (2026) ↗
By the June 30 window, X Chat had a limited encryption-protocol audit (Trail of Bits) but the full code was not open-sourced — the security-tests half partly happened, the open-source half did not.
