Musk promised (Sep 19, 2025) 'the algorithm will be purely AI by November.' November passed with the main feed still on the legacy stack (in late October he was still promising to remove heuristics 'within 4-6 weeks'). But the promised thing shipped about seven weeks late: on Jan 20, 2026 X released its new production For You algorithm — live on the platform and open-sourced — which 'relies entirely' on a Grok-based transformer, with all hand-engineered ranking features removed.
