Starlink Installation: DIY Setup, Mounts and Pro Install
Most people set Starlink up themselves on the included kickstand, no tools needed. Professional installation is free on the Residential 200 Mbps and Max plans. The only hard rule: the dish needs a clear view of the sky.
Before you order: install the Starlink app and use its obstruction tool at the spot you have in mind. If the sky is blocked there, plan a roof, wall or pole mount.

Nothing if you set it up yourself on the included kickstand. Starlink lists free professional home installation on Residential 200 Mbps ($85/mo) and Residential Max ($130/mo). Mounts cost extra (starlink.com, 14 Oct 2026).
Can you install Starlink yourself?
Yes. The kit comes with a kickstand, a 49.2 ft cable and the router. Starlink's guide is five steps: get the app, plug in, find clear sky, align, join the Wi-Fi.
Can I get someone to install my Starlink?
Starlink offers free professional installation on Residential 200 Mbps and Residential Max. On other plans, any installer option and price shows at checkout for your address.
Do I need to drill a hole in my house for Starlink?
Not for a ground setup on the kickstand. Wall, roof and pole mounts screw in, and Starlink lists a drill and a 6 mm (1/4 in) bit for them. How you bring the cable inside is up to you.
What blocks a Starlink signal?
Anything between the dish and the sky. Starlink: "Your Starlink needs a clear view of the sky so it can stay connected with satellites as they move overhead. Objects that obstruct the connection between your Starlink and the satellite, such as a tree branch, pole, or roof, will cause service interruptions."
What's the downside of Starlink?
It needs open sky, usually costs more than cable or fiber, and plans vary by area. Our full answer: Is Starlink worth it?
