Questions

What does the Tesla warranty cover?

New Teslas get a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, 5 years/60,000 miles on airbags and restraints, 8 years on the battery and drive unit (100,000 to 150,000 miles by model), and 12 years on rust-through (Tesla Support).

How long is the Tesla battery warranty?

8 years on every current model. The mileage cap is 100,000 miles (Model 3 RWD, Model Y RWD and AWD), 120,000 (Premium and Performance trims) or 150,000 (Model S, Model X, Cybertruck), with at least 70% capacity kept.

Does Tesla offer an extended warranty?

Yes. Model S, X, 3 and Y may qualify for an Extended Service Agreement that starts when the new-car warranty ends, and Model 3 and Model Y may qualify for a separate Battery ESA. Tesla doesn't list prices on its warranty page.

Does the Tesla warranty transfer if I buy used?

Yes. Your New Vehicle Limited Warranty will follow your vehicle and be transferred to the new owner when a vehicle ownership transfer is performed through Tesla.

What warranty comes with a Certified Pre-Owned Tesla?

Tesla Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are covered by the remainder of 4 years or 50,000 miles left on the Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty. After expiration, the Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty provides additional coverage of 1 year or 10,000 miles. The rest of the original battery warranty still applies.

Do I have to use a Tesla Service Center?

For warranty repairs, yes. Other repairs and maintenance can go to any shop. Damage from third-party adaptors or chargers isn't covered.
