Used Tesla with FSD: Does It Transfer?

A used Tesla keeps FSD (Supervised) only if a past owner bought it outright and didn't move it to another car; subscriptions end with the old owner (Tesla, checked 31 Oct 2026). FSD can't be bought outright any more, so a car that has it is worth checking twice. Without it, FSD is $99 a month.

How do I check a used Tesla for FSD?

Ask the seller how FSD was paid forOutright purchase stays with the car; a subscription does not. Get it written on the bill of sale.
Look at Controls > Software on the carTesla: check for "Full Self Driving Capability" in the included package, and "Full Self-Driving (Supervised) Software" under Software. A subscription shows an end date.
Ask for a live look, not a screenshotHave the seller open the screen while you watch, in person or on a video call.
Ask Tesla to confirm by VINTesla's FSD page says to contact Customer Support if a purchased FSD isn't showing as active.
Check the Tesla app after the transferUpgrades > Software Upgrades: if FSD is offered for sale, the car doesn't have it.

Does FSD transfer to a used Tesla buyer?

It stays with the car if a previous owner bought it outright and didn't move it to another Tesla. A subscription ends with the old owner's account. Tesla: "If the previous owner purchased FSD (Supervised) outright and did not transfer it to a new vehicle, you will receive the vehicle with FSD (Supervised)."

How can I tell if a used Tesla has FSD?

On the car, open Controls > Software and look for "Full Self Driving Capability" in the included package (Tesla's own check). After the sale, the Tesla app's Upgrades screen shows whether FSD is still for sale for that car.

Can I transfer FSD from my old Tesla to a used one?

No. Tesla's FSD transfer program ended on 31 Mar 2026.

Is a used Tesla with FSD worth more?

Purchased FSD can't be bought new any more: the one-time option ended 14 Feb 2026 at $8,000. The alternative is $99/mo. Make sure the purchase is real before you pay extra for it.
