Is FSD Worth It in 2026?

FSD (Supervised) costs $99 a month as of 31 Oct 2026; Tesla stopped selling it outright on 14 Feb 2026. It is worth it if you would use it for most of your miles: at 1,000 assisted miles a month that is about 10 cents a mile. Price your own driving below, then try a free month before you pay.

Questions

Is FSD worth $99 a month?

It depends on how many miles you would use it for. At $99 a month, 1,000 assisted miles cost about 10 cents a mile and 300 cost 33 cents. It is month to month, so many owners pay only in months with long drives. Try the free month first if you qualify.

Can I still buy FSD outright?

No. Tesla ended the one-time purchase on 14 Feb 2026 (last US price $8,000). Tesla's support page now says: "FSD (Supervised) is currently not available for outright purchase and is only available as a subscription."

Can I cancel FSD any time?

Yes. Tesla: "You can cancel your subscription at any time and you will continue to have access to FSD (Supervised) features for the remainder of the current billing period." Refunds are not available for subscriptions.

Does FSD make a Tesla drive itself?

No. Tesla: "FSD (Supervised) is an advanced driver assistance system that is intended to be used only with a fully attentive driver. It does not turn a Tesla into a fully autonomous vehicle." Musk has given dates for no-attention driving since 2019; the chart above shows how they turned out.

Is FSD cheaper for Enhanced Autopilot owners?

Yes. Owners whose car has Enhanced Autopilot pay $49 a month instead of $99 (Notebookcheck, Jan 2026).

How do I try FSD for free?

New cars from Tesla come with a trial. Owners who have not paid for FSD in 12 months can get one month through an owner's referral link. See FSD free trial.
